After endless months of research and shopping around I carefully selected a Harley-Davidson motorcycle to celebrate all that was good in life.

A irritable old biker once told me that youth is wasted on the young. 22 years old is an exciting time in a man's life. He is full of vigor, prowess, and insatiable appetites. He is old enough to be witty and young enough to remember the end of his jokes. Likewise, he's often old enough to know better, and young enough not to care. The 22 year old male feels on top of the world.

It was at 22 years old I bought my first Harley-Davidson motorcycle. For a moment as brief as twilight, I was on top of the world. I miss that bike.

For my Dad, who said - among countless other words of encouragement - “That’s a great site!”
This post is just for you.

My father hasn't been permitted to drive for the past few years on account of having had brain cancer, leaving him prone to potential seizures. He beat his brain tumor only to be hit with cancer in the central nervous system in his spine. This isn't a sad story. Au contraire, it's my answer to not only what was my greatest motorcycle memory of 2011, but also a day I will remember forever.

The Diavel is Ducati’s coup de gras, something the company has never done before. It’s a courageous and audacious move that has split motorcyclists in two: those who absolutely love it, and those who find it absurd. Not a custom, not a supersport, and not a cruiser, the Diavel is much more than just a muscle bike.

Toronto City Councillors will be looking into charging motorcycles parking in the city of Toronto. Motorcyclists have not had to pay for parking in Toronto since a late October, 2005 Council meeting. After what seems like an endless unslaught of budget cuts to public services from Mayor Rob Ford's City Hall that has left Toronto hearts crying, will motorcyclists be the next victims or will Toronto Councillors remember that it was actually costing them to charge parking for motorcycles in the first place?

It’s not easy being a motorcyclist in Toronto, Canada. Here in the Great White North motorcyclists are few and far between. We’re a rare breed still frowned upon as non-sensible, a band of hooligans in the eyes of our coworkers, friends, and family. Our riding season is short and our weather is unfriendly. We have no organized motorcycle races within the city save for the once or twice MX comes to town, and our downtown <a href="http://www.torontoscooters.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=149:bikes-chicken-wings-stunt-show&catid=54:organized-rides-events&Itemid=142" title="Stunters Inc.
Neither sportbike, nor cruiser. Neither Harley, nor Porsche. The Street Rod is a conundrum of a motorcycle. Original V-Rod owners and fans wailed about the suspension, both front and rear, and the V-Rod's unsporting handling, particularly in corners. On July 4th, 2011, Madeline "MISSRIDER" Velazquez set out on the ride of a lifetime: travelling across the United States by motorcycle, all alone, aboard her Triumph Bonneville. She was kind of enough to take a moment to answer some of our questions and tell us about her trip.

Fears of global warming, a double dip recession, and rising gas prices have many North Americans running away from the gas pumps. We're seeing a rising number of people parking (or selling) their cars and buying motorcycles as a more earth-friendly, convenient, affordable and fun method of transportation.

Before you rush to trade in your Suzuki SUV for a Suzuki SV, let's look at whether or not motorcycles are more environmentally friendly then cars.

Motorcycles inspire nostalgia and sentimentality. We feel a connection to our bikes, a bond, they're our release from the restrictions of a normal life. It's not surprising people get altogether a little too attached to these machines. Sometimes what we expect to get for our motorcycles isn't always realistic, other times we're in too much of a rush to just "sell the damn thing" and end up selling ourselves short. Here's how to get it sold!

Education is sometimes defined as a “planned experience, designed to bring about a change of behaviour.”

We are all teachers! Don't believe me? Check your self-talk the next time that idiot in the cage cuts you off! You will likely find yourself saying “I'll teach that ... .... a lesson” with some added colourful and graphic expletives that would make a sailor proud! Our imaginations then go into overtime to find some creative “plan of action” that will “bring about a change of behaviour” such as a heavy boot finding its way through the driver's side window.

Motorcyclists live a lifestyle far from the mainstream. We don’t hold the same set of values as everyone else. We don’t comply with society’s prescribed notions of acceptable norms and behaviours. In a world of cages, rules, and safety nets, we find ourselves a counter-culture all of our own. Whether we sweat in the dirt, shave seconds off at the track, stroll the boulevards, or spend hours in the shop creating a machine like no other, we’re all part of riding and her many subcultures.
A new documentary film, Flake and Flames, looks at the Kustom Kulture, one of our most colorful. The film looks at top artists and designers from around the world, and some of the hottest rides.

KYMCO's Quannon 150cc motorcycle was the answer to those in need of a reliable, lightweight, beginner friendly motorcycle, that was actually sized for adults. While the Honda CBR-125R has been an excellent beginner machine, at anything over 5'9" it becomes a little tight, not to mention arguably "too light". That's where the Quannon comes in.

Canada, the world’s second largest country, spans six timezones and thousands of kilometres. From Rockie Mountains to Prairies, Borreal Plains to Mixwood Greenbelt, Ocean to Ocean, who wouldn’t want to cross Canada on a motorcycle? That was the question asked to me by Ian of the MAC Rally of Hope. In 2010 the rally raised $88,000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation. This year the rally has riders travelling across Canada with their sights set on raising over $100,000, all while exploring the great white north on their iron steeds.

Hello riders! Some of you may remember last month’s article Targeting Women Motorcyclists - Resources for Female Riders. The article highlighted Vicki Gray / MOTORESS and the International Female Ride Day, other players in the local female riding community, and how as riders we all benefit from a strong female presence in motorcycling. It called out for women riders to share their links with us.

Earlier today I heard about a new blog, I-Want-To-Ride.com. The new blog chronicles the quest to becoming a motorcyclist, as told by future biker-belle Cecilia Lourenco. Having lived and rode a scooter in Florence, Italy, Cecilia’s posts offer an enthusiastic but down to earth look at her progression into motorcycling here in Toronto, Canada:

E-Bikes have seen a huge boom in popularity in urban areas. Economical, practical, and environmentally friendly the E-Bike could very well be the way of the future. Unfortunately, local by-laws and provincial legislation have been creating confusion and limitations. What we're left with in the aftermath of all the politics are dangerous road conditions and a fleet of junky rides. The way of the future has not arrived here yet, and not all E-Bikes are created equal.

Vicki, perhaps better known as MOTORESS, has been actively involved in motorcycles since the mid-1980s. Here was a woman who could have easily out-rode me on my own bike, content with taking a quick ride around the block as a passenger on my Harley-Davidson. When we arrived at the station we spoke briefly about our experiences as a passenger. “I’m not afraid of anything”, she said. I believe her.

The 250cc motorcycle market has finally opened up in the Western hemisphere. In North America, where the Ninja seemed to sit at the top of the 250cc sportbike throne all alone, it now faces challenges from both Hyosung, as well as from Honda's new CBR-250R. If you're looking for a 250cc cruiser, the only one available in Canada or the USA we'd recommend is the KYMCO Venox, but if sportbike motorcycles are your thing, here's a comparison of acceleration, speeds, braking and fuel economy:

Once upon a time, someone on the internet stated that there was nothing wrong with drum brakes on a motorcycle: "Absolutely nothing. Plenty of stopping power and no fluid to change and bleed. Rear drum brake has been put in the same basket as carburetors, ancient technology that deserve ridicule." While we respect the drum brake, and the author's right to his own opinion, we felt that in this 21st century it's important to back up opinions with some facts.

In stock form, the KYMCO Venox has a great top speed for a cruiser. It does over 140 km/hr, but 5th gear is a bit of an overdrive and the bike doesn't have much pull left at that speed. The bike cruisers comfortably at 120 or up to 130, but at those speeds there isn't a lot of power left for passing.

What oil should I use and how do I change the oil on my motorcycle?

KYMCO recommends 5W-50 motorcycle oil. This chart illustrates what motorcycle oil you should use based on the temperature. What you use in the desert or tropics may not be what we use here in Canada. On my KYMCO Venox, I put in fresh 10W-40 Semi-Synthetic motorcycle oil every oil change. The Synthetic vs. Non-Synthetic debate is older than I am and so I'll avoid it. I like my Semi-Synthetic, it's more than what's recommended, and it's good enough for me.

I came across someone who was restoring a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle he recently bought. He was doing an awesome job rebuilding it, but didn't know what model of Sportster it was.

It's important to know what Sportster model you have, examples: Low, 883R, SuperLow, Custom, Standard, Roadster, etc. While 95% of parts are interchangeable, getting the wrong Sportster parts for the others can result in different lengths at suspension and at the forks, the wrong tires, and more.

For new riders, the costs of motorcycle insurance can be a surprise. Younger riders in particular may find that their annual motorcycle insurance premium may cost as much as their motorcycle did. Finding out what insurance is before you buy is important because young or old, the first year riding will be your most expensive year riding. Don't jump the gun and start riding before you can afford it, or you'll be tempted to go cheap on insurance, gear, and a safe reliable machine. Making any of those mistakes can cost you in the long run.

What you should know - Motorcycle insurance rates in Ontario are subject to:

Age

Driving history (convictions, accidents and claims)

How long you've held a valid motorcycle class license

What class of motorcycle you intend on insuring (supersports are most expensive, some are even blacklisted and non-insurable in Canada)

The displacement size of the motorcycle (engine size is generally measured in Cubic Centimeters or CC)

The amount of coverage you choose to get.

Where to get motorcycle insurance from.

What to do? Get quotes for different displacement sizes and classes of motorcyles. This way, when shopping around, you'll have a better of idea of how each bike fits into your budget. Sample motorcycles to request quotes for: 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250, 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 500, 2004 Honda Shadow 750, 2004 Honda CBR-600. The CBR isn't beginner-friendly, but you're the type who has wet dreams over crotch-rockets it'll give you the reality check on the high rates of insurance of these kinds of bikes.

Whether or not you already had some kind of idea of the type of motorcycle you wanted, when you get your quotes, you'll find out:
a) Whether or not you can afford to ride right now
b) A rough idea of how much different sizes and types of motorcycles would cost you to insure.

Who should you call for motorcycle insurance? Here's are two tree made by VifferFun from GTAMotorcycle to help you decide.

Air cooled motorcycles run quieter.

You'll tend to see them more on cruisers as most cruisers typically run at lower RPMs then sportbikes, which tend to be liquid cooled.

Air cool provides more simplicity, representing one less thing which could break or need to be replaced.

Liquid cooling rads are sometimes fragile, and external or aftermarket oil-coolers can also be expensive and likely to break in a drop. Air cooled bikes may be cheaper.

The most popular motorcycling road in the Greater Toronto Area, is historical and beautiful. Forks Of The Credit Road is a great motorcycle riding road just outside of Toronto. Just enjoy the ride, and be wary of OPP on weekends. During the week when traffic is quiet is when you can have some real fun.

The KYMCO Venox benefits from some nice thick exhaust pipes that accentuate the deep tune of the 90-degree V-Twin engine. It’s easy to make the bike sound even louder. You can really wake up the sound of the bike by modifying the baffles to let the exhaust escape more freely. This guide will walk you through the process in 5 Steps.

This is the website of Adrian and Ashley, a couple that loves to ride, play, and enjoy outdoor adventures. Since 2007 we've been taking part in Ontario's two-wheel community and enjoy all of the rides, roads, events and meets.

The site began as a window into our lives for family and friends in 2009 under the name "Our Little Adventures". Before long we began to steer further away from our personal lives and deeper into the motorcycles. In 2011 the site was rebranded as YouMotorcycle.com and visitors tripled.

Today the site is a one horse show, so please contact us if you'd like to submit your story. Everything is run from Adrian's basement apartment, "The Mancave", where he houses his motorcycles and a biker-dog named Miley Saurus. Advertisements were recently added to the site to help pay the bills of running the secret underground biker bunker.

We strongly believe that soccer is the beautiful game, hockey is coolest game on earth, and motorcycling is the world's greatest outdoor sport. We love the connection between man (or woman!) and machine, the open road, the freedom and the energy. Do YouMotorcycle?
