Crossing USA

Whether its the freedom, the machine, or the woman herself, everyone can appreciate something of beauty in a woman riding her motorcycle. For some women, a ride around town, or even the state just isn't enough. On July 4th, 2011, Madeline "MISSRIDER" Velazquez set out on the ride of a lifetime: travelling across the United States by motorcycle, all alone, aboard her Triumph Bonneville. She was kind of enough to take a moment to answer some of our questions and tell us about her trip.

Girls Ride

Hello riders! Some of you may remember last month’s article Targeting Women Motorcyclists - Resources for Female Riders. The article highlighted Vicki Gray / MOTORESS and the International Female Ride Day, other players in the local female riding community, and how as riders we all benefit from a strong female presence in motorcycling. It called out for women riders to share their links with us.

Earlier today I heard about a new blog, I-Want-To-Ride.com. The new blog chronicles the quest to becoming a motorcyclist, as told by future biker-belle Cecilia Lourenco. Having lived and rode a scooter in Florence, Italy, Cecilia’s posts offer an enthusiastic but down to earth look at her progression into motorcycling here in Toronto, Canada:

MOTORESS

Vicki Gray was dropping off her KYMCO Bet & Win at Studio Cycle Group in Toronto when I offered her a ride to the subway station. Vicki, perhaps better known as MOTORESS, has been actively involved in motorcycles since the mid-1980s. Here was a woman who could have easily out-rode me on my own bike, content with taking a quick ride around the block as a passenger on my Harley-Davidson. When we arrived at the station we spoke briefly about our experiences as a passenger. “I’m not afraid of anything”, she said. I believe her.
